Welcome to Next Step Physio
Next Step Physio is a clinic in Sale, Cheshire, specialising in post-op rehabilitation for all orthopaedic surgeries and treating musculoskeletal complaints including neck and back pain, as well as shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle pain.
Our mission is to provide exceptional care in a warm, welcoming and supportive environment.

Our Approach

At Next Step Physio, we focus on individualised treatment plans that promote recovery, mobility, strength and overall well-being.
With a commitment to evidence based practice, we ensure that every treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs and goals.
We treat patients using a combination of hands on techniques (massage, mobilisation and soft tissue techniques) and exercise programmes to improve range of movement, strength, stability and balance. You don’t need to join a gym or have any special equipment – most exercises can be carried out easily in your own home.

Our Services
We have a range of services designed to facilitate recovery, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being. From post-op rehabilitation to musculoskeletal treatment, our comprehensive approach aims to address individual health needs and promote optimal recovery.

Post-Op Rehabilitation
Our post-op rehabilitation focuses on promoting recovery and restoring mobility and strength after orthopaedic surgery.
We work in close communication with your consultant to ensure that you are making the anticipated progress following your operation and deal with any issues or concerns.

Orthopaedic Physiotherapy
for Musculoskeletal complaints
Physiotherapy treatment targets specific complaints such as neck and back pain, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle issues, using a variety of techniques aimed at alleviating discomfort and enhance overall well-being.

Virtual/Online Physiotherapy
When you can't be seen in person
Physiotherapy treatment can be effectively carried out online. This can be beneficial for patients that are unable to travel or cannot be seen in person for any reason. It gives us the opportunity to review how you are getting on and progress your advice and exercises, without needing to be seen in person.
Meet your Physio
Sarah Barnes
Chartered Physiotherapist

Sarah qualified from Salford University with a BSc in Sports Rehabilitation in 2000 and after working in a sports injuries clinic and in various team sports, she became a Chartered Physiotherapist in 2007. Since then, she has worked in a large, local private hospital in the outpatient department, treating patients following a wide variety of orthopaedic surgeries (including total hip and knee replacements, rotator cuff surgeries, knee and hip arthroscopies and spinal surgeries.) She also treated patients with a variety of musculoskeletal complaints and trauma.
Sarah decided to set up Next Step Physio as she was ready for a change and wanted to be able to treat her patients in a calm, relaxing environment in her clinic room at home.
Sarah has a special interest in treating hip patients – in particular Greater Trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) and young adult hip pain. She had a hip arthroscopy 15 years ago and understands clearly the effects that hip pain has in the younger population.
Sarah treats patients using a combination of hands on techniques (massage, mobilisation and soft tissue techniques) and exercise programmes to improve range of movement, strength, stability and balance.
What does Physiotherapy involve?
Physiotherapists help people affected by injury, illness or disability, through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, 2025)
Initial Assessment
Personalised assessment and treatment plan
Our initial assessment focuses on understanding your condition and needs, in order to create a personalised treatment plan with you that addresses your specific goals and concerns.
We will do a variety of movements and tests in order to work out what is causing your problem. We will then explain this diagnosis to you and help you to understand it. We will do some treatment and give you some exercises and advice to get you started.

Follow Up Sessions
Customised treatment and rehabilitation
Each Physiotherapy session is aimed at making further improvements with the issues identified at your initial assessment.
We use a combination of techniques to accelerate healing and improve your overall well-being.

Progress Tracking
Monitoring and Adjustments
We closely monitor your progress and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcomes and long-term wellness.
